Chair 4 and Chair 8 are now open just as another snowstorm is moving into position here at Loveland. The snow started falling yeterday and the forecast is calling for it to continue through Saturday. By the time it’s all said and done we could see 3 to 6 inches of fresh stuff, just in time for the weekend! Make plans to spend your weekend getting fresh lines at Loveland, not waiting in lift lines at the other resorts!

The Snow is Falling at Loveland Ski Area!

Hooray SNOW! It has been a wintery few days here at Loveland with nearly a foot of fresh snow falling on the slopes this week. The forecast also looks good with some reports calling for up to 18" to fall through Sunday. This new snow would go a long way to helping us open more terrain, so keep doing your snow dance!

Be sure to sign up for custom snow reports to be the first to know how much we get. You can receive reports every day, only on Fridays, or anytime we receive 6 inches or more. Sign-up now and never miss another powder day again!

Salomon visits with their new BBR ski for you to demo at no cost. Their new BBR ski features a unique shape that will help you master all corners of the mountain in any conditions. Find them in the front of the Basin Parking Lot for your chance to try out a pair of the BBR Skis. There is no cost to participate although a valid lift ticket, driver's license and credit card for deposit are required.

Fun Family Race Day – Saturday, January 28th, 2012
Join us on Saturday, January 28th as Loveland Ski Area, the Race Club and Subaru host a Fun Family Race Day. Ski Season off to a Good Start!

It's not even November yet but we've already had a few awesome powder days here at Loveland! A storm that pushed through Tuesday and Wednesday dropped nearly 2 feet of new snow and the early season conditions are spectacular. We currently have two top to bottom runs open and the recent storm will help get more terrain open very soon. The snowmakers are working hard to put the finishing touches on Chair 6 and we will let you know as soon as it is ready to start turning. The forecast is calling for some beautiful weather this weekend, a great chance to get that first day on the slopes! Early season tickets are only $47 for an adult full day and only $22 for children ages 6-14.

Spring Storms Bring Another 2 Feet to Loveland!
As other ski areas around Colorado are getting ready to close, Loveland is still going strong! A couple spring storms have hit us this week dropping another two feet of fresh and pushing our year-to-date total over 475 inches and our mid-mountain base over 100 inches! With just under a month of the season remaining, there is still time to get great spring skiing and riding in! And with late season ticket pricing now in effect, only $46 for adult and $22 for children, what other excuse do you need?!

As the end of an epic snow season looms in the near future we are excited to announce that 2011 / 2012 Season Passes are on sale now and will be good for the remainder of 2010 / 2011 season as well! These are the lowest priced passes that will be offered for 2011 / 2012 season and are available online, at the Loveland Basin Ticket Office, or over the phone by calling 303-571-5580 x136. Ski & Ride School Open Through May 8th
The Loveland Ski & Ride School will continue to operate as normal out of the Basin Lodge despite the closing of the Loveland Valley. Expert instructors are available for all levels of skiing and snowboarding on both a walk-in and advanced registration basis. The Ski & Ride School is also still offering telemark instructions with advanced registration. 51st Annual Loveland Derby - This Weekend!
The largest amateur ski race in North America returns to Loveland for the 51st Season. Costumes, races, and fun surround this event as racers from all over America travel to celebrate the end of another season. Think you got skills? Prove it at the 2011 Tall Tees & Tacos Slopestyle competition at Loveland Ski Area. Join us as skiers and riders of all ages, abilities, and disciplines compete to win some of the $10,000 worth of prizes up for grabs. Wahoo's Fish Tacos returns to provide lunch to competitors as the Skullcandy DJ spins Tunes in the Love Park during the competition. Registration costs $20 and includes and event tall tee and lunch. Corn Harvest Benefit Ski Party - Saturday, April 30th
Join us on Saturday, April 24th as Loveland Ski Area hosts the 10th annual Corn Harvest benefit ski party for the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. The meteorologists can't quite agree on how much we can expect out of this storm, but the forecast is calling for the snow to start falling as soon as tonight an continue through the weekend. Loveland is excited to host the men of Beta Theta Pi from the Colorado School of Mines this Saturday, February 5th for their annual Ski-a-Thon philanthropy event. Storm Drops 3 Feet of Snow on Loveland This Week!
The snow fell hard this week here at Loveland and nearly 3 feet of fresh snow was added to our slopes. With this latest storm our year-to-date snowfall total is now 232 inches! To put that number in perspective, on this day last year we only had 116 inches of natural snowfall.

Just in case you had any doubts about how great the conditions are, check out the pictures on the left taken this week by David Gidley, and this video taken on Tuesday. Since that video was filmed we received yet another foot of snow and the forecast is calling for up to a foot through this weekend! Make your plans to spend the weekend skiing one of Colorado's snowiest ski areas, Loveland!

The forecast is calling for the snow to start falling tonight and continue through Monday, Martin Luther King Day. Intermountain Humane Society Needs Your Help
A recent outbreak at The Intermountain Humane Society of Pine Junction, Colorado has caused them to cancel a fundraiser scheduled to be hosted here at Loveland and left them with a huge financial strain and need your help now more than ever. They are taking donations of not just money, but items such a pet food, fleece blankets, cleaning equipment, grooming equipment and even toys. The sport of Telemark skiing is a growing discipline and Loveland is happy to offer clinics in this classic form of the sport. Equipment can be rented from the Loveland Adventure Center and reservations are required for this half day clinic that includes a full day lift ticket.

The Loveland Explorers Program is a 6-week program for intermediate skiers and snowboarders ages 7-14. Small classes of no more than 6 students learn and explore with the same coach every week. Earliest Chair 9 Opening in Years!

A lot of people have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the Continental Divide's Chair 9 and yesterday saw one of the earliest Chair 9 openings in the lift's history! The snowfall so far this year has been above average and the 16" we received on Monday and Tuesday gave us what we needed to get The Ridge open. Chair 9 is currently providing access to Patrol Bowl and Rookie Road with the chance of more opening soon. Chair 9 will continue to operate for the 2010 - 2011 season as long as conditions permit.

The good news doesn't stop there; there is more snow in the forecast for this weekend! Meteorologists can't agree on exactly how much we may get, but keep an eye on the weather Friday night and Saturday because it could be a powder weekend. Be sure to sign up for our custom snow reports so you don't miss another powder day.

Family Race Day - Saturday, December 18th

Join us on Saturday, December 18th for the first Family Race Day of the 2010 - 2011 season! Last season's Family Race Day was hugely popular and this season we are excited to have a dual slalom course so you can race side-by-side against your friends and family. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, but at least we are going out with a bang! Loveland will close for the 2009 - 2010 season this Sunday, May 2nd but not before we get another powder day! Since last Thursday we have received over 2 feet of snow with another 8 inches of fresh snow this morning, Thursday the 29th! That's nearly 3 feet in a week and the forecast is calling for it to keep on falling! We're not sure how much we may get, but one thing for certain is that closing weekend conditions are going to be phenomenal! Don't miss it!

Corn Harvest Benefit Ski Party Raises $7600 for CAIC !
On behalf of Loveland Ski Area we would like to thank everyone who came out to support the 9th Annual Corn Harvest Benefit Ski Party. Participants were treated with nearly 2 feet of fresh snow after a huge spring storm before the skies cleared in the afternoon for a killer apres party. The sun was shinning, the New Belgium Beer was flowing, and the Blue Canyon Boys got everyone up and dancing on the patio outside the Rathskeller. Overall the event was a complete success with $7600 raised for the Colorado Avalanche Information Center!

Loveland Derby Celebrates 50 Years - This Weekend!
The Loveland Derby is the largest amateur race in North America and this weekend the event celebrates its 50th anniversary! The Derby will take place at Loveland Valley with a special alumni race and apres party on April 16th. All racers are invited to come out and celebrate the end of the 09-10 season with costumes, BBQs and fast paced racing fun for the entire family. Charity Poker Run This Saturday!
This Saturday, April 17th, Sunglass Management Design will be hosting a charity Poker Run at Loveland Ski Area. All proceeds from this event will go to the Autism Society of Colorado. It looked more like Halloween than Easter last weekend here at Loveland, but then again it was New Belgium Brewery's Scavenger Hunt. Nearly 200 people showed up in costumes ready to search the mountain, win prizes and of course drink great beer! Check out all the craziness caught on video . The employees of the City and County of Denver are taking a mandatory furlough day on Friday, April 2. As a thank you to these employees for their sacrifice, Loveland Ski Area is excited to offer discount tickets to these employees and their immediate family on Friday, April 2, 2010. A small storm gave us over half a foot earlier this week and there is a chance we may get a little more in time for the weekend. Loveland is excited to host Subaru's Master the Mountain this weekend, March 27th & 28th. Subaru has created an event weekend dedicated to promoting a safe and enjoyable snowrider environment. Join us for mini-lessons with the Loveland Ski & Ride School at no cost, Nordica demos and an insight to Ski Patrol operations with an avalanche awareness and beacon training session. March Comes in Like a Lion at Loveland!
March definitely came in like a lion this season with 11 inches of fresh powder on the 1st. After the storm the skies cleared and made for one of those perfect powder days at Loveland. Check out some of the photos taken on Tuesday by our resident photographer Dustin Schaefer! March is usually our snowiest season and we all hope this past storm is a sign of things to come this month.

The forecast for this weekend is calling for a little more snow on Friday before it clears up and sun comes out. With sunny skies, warm temps and fresh snow it looks like Loveland is the place to spend your weekend!

Late Season Terrain Park Competitions Announced
Spring isn't far off and that means time for Loveland's late season terrain park competitions. Join us in the Love Park on Tempest on March 20th and May 1st as we continue the Vert Alert Series with the Tall Tees and Tacos Slopestyle Competition presented by Wahoo's Fish Tacos. All ages and abilities are eligible to compete for the chance to win some of the $10,000 in prizes. A signed waiver, valid lift ticket and competition entry fee will be required. Over a foot of fresh snow has fallen at Loveland this week and the mountain is offering the best conditions of the season...so far! Loveland has received measurable snow each of the last seven days and there is a storm on the horizon that could blanket Loveland with up to another foot of snow this weekend. Couples Celebrate Valentine's Day in Style at Loveland
This past Sunday, Valentine's Day, nearly 70 couples either got married or renewed their vows high atop the Continental Divide here at Loveland Ski Area. Not only did they participate in one of America's most unique events, but they were also treated with some of the best conditions of the season. The Great Colorado Hose Relay Returns to Loveland
Loveland is excited to once again host The Great Colorado Hose Relay this February 27th. The Hose Relay is a slalom style race in which teams of 5 navigate the gates in fireman's coats and helmets, the whole while holding on to a 50 foot fire hose. This challenging event not only riles up the competitive nature of these teams, but also raises important funds for the St. Anthony's Children's Hospital Burn Clinic. Loveland Celebrates the Winter Olympics
Everyone here at Loveland is excited about the winter Olympics and not just because we love winter sports, but because some of the top competitors spent the early season training and competing here at Loveland Ski Area. Congratulations to Lindsey Vonn for her gold in the downhill and also to Julia Mancuso who collected her second silver of the 2010 games earlier today. She is now the most decorated female skier in Olympic history.

And let's not forget about Hannah Kearney, Shaun White and Shani Davis who all won gold in 2010. USA!

This Valentine's Day Loveland's ever famous Mountaintop Matrimony returns for it's 19th season. In what is now a Loveland tradition couples get married or renew their vows in a mass wedding ceremony high atop the continental divide, elevation 12,050 ft. At the conclusion of the ceremony everyone skis to the base for a casual after party with live music, spirits, wedding cake and even a best dressed contest. Whether you looking to get hitched or just up to make some turns, this is a special event not to be missed!

Couples who preregister for Loveland's 19th Annual Mountaintop Matrimony are eligible for buy-one get-one lift tickets the day of the event. But hurry, the preregistration deadline is tomorrow, February 12th. You may still register at no cost the morning of the event between 8:30am and 10:30am in the Rathskeller.

Slowly but Surely, New Snow Opens More Terrain
Although we haven't had any major snowstorms recently in these parts of Colorado, the consistent small snowfalls have really been adding up. Not only are the conditions great, but we've been able to open more terrain on The Ridge as well. Check out some of the photos taken earlier this week on The Ridge and Porcupine Saddle off Chair 9.

Whether it's the great snow, our wide open terrain, or just the hassle free nature of our area, pro skiers and riders love Loveland! Recently we had pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones visit us to take some runs and test some of his new boards; Jones Boards. There's a chance you may have seen Jeremy here at Loveland before, although you 're more likely to have seen him in the latest ski movies riding some of the biggest, gnarliest lines in Alaska and other remote destinations around the world.

Not only do we have pro snowboarders tearing it up here, but recent Powder Award's Best Skier winner Seth Morrison also frequents Loveland when he's not hucking flips off 100 foot cliffs in terrain most of us wouldn't even dream of skiing. If pros like these enjoy Loveland, it's no wonder we have so many loyal Lovelanders! And with more snow in the forecast you'll be feeling like a pro next time your up.

Local Fraternities Ski for a Good Cause

A Foot of Fresh and SIA comes to Denver!
Although we didn't get quite the snow the southern mountains did, over a foot of fresh snow fell on Loveland this past week. Slowly but surely the mountain is filling in and making for some excellent skiing and riding conditions. Most of the snowy weather has passed for now and the weather forecast for this weekend looks like mild temperatures and sunny skies; perfect skiing weather!

Loveland is also excited to welcome the Snowsports Industries America (SIA) Convention to Denver after 37 years in Las Vegas. The SIA convention features over 3,100 exhibitors and will bring an estimated 20,000 people to the Denver area through the weekend. In addition to the convention, ski areas including Loveland will be hosting apres parties to show off Denver's great nightlife and promote Colorado's amazing skiing and riding.

Join Loveland Ski Area in Denver at Katie Mullin's Irish Restaurant & Pub for drink specials, giveaways and fun as we help welcome the SIA Tradeshow to Denver. Now that we have Chair 4, 8 and 9 open, all we need is some more snow! A huge storm system that is currently hammering the West Coast might be exactly what we need. The weather forecast isn't completely sure how much we may get, but do a little snow dance, pray to Ullr, and keep those fingers crossed in hope for some fresh powder!
Loveland Race Club - Introduction to Racing for Kids
The Loveland Race Club is excited to now offer an Intro to Ski Racing for Kids. Ski racing provides a solid background in ski fundamentals that is fun and can be applied anywhere on the mountain. These clinics will focus on learning stance, balance, edging, pressure and dynamic movement over 6 Sunday's with the same professional race coach each weekend. Chair 8 and 9 Now Open!
With a little patience and a lot of hard work from Ski Patrol and Trail Maintenance we are excited to announce that Chair 8 and 9 are now open for the season. In addition to Chair 8 and 9, we were also able to get some of the steeps under Chair 1 open. In just one week we have nearly doubled our amount of open terrain and with a little more snow it won't be long until we have the entire mountain open. After a foot of fresh snow this week we are excited to announce that we have been able to open over 100 acres of terrain including Chair 4! Not only did we get another lift open, but the South Chutes off Chair 2 opened this past week as well. As for the conditions, well just check out the photos to the left all taken this week! Needless to say the season is in full swing and it won't be long before we get the rest of the lifts turning. New Snow Opens More Terrain for the Holidays!
After a foot of fresh snow this week not only are the conditions great, but we were able to open more terrain as well! Over 10" fell on Sunday night giving us what we needed to open most of the runs off Chair 6 as well as Firecut off Chair 2. Check out some of the photos to the left that were taken earlier this week and featured in local newspapers and television stations. There is still plenty of more terrain to open, so keep thinking snow!

The snow has been falling steadily all day today, Thursday the 17th, and there might even be a chance for some more this weekend. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and if you haven't already, be sure to sign up for our custom snow reports and be the first to know just how much we get.

There is nothing Santa likes more than skiing (other then Christmas of course!) and this Christmas he visits his favorite ski area, Loveland! More Snow in the Forecast for the Weekend!
After a cold spell this week it looks as if the temperatures are going to return to a normal level for this time of year and may even bring some new snow this weekend! It is still a little early to tell how much we might get, but keep an eye on the weather forecast . If you haven't already, be sure to sign up for our custom snow reports and be the first to know just how much we get.

Not only is there a chance for snow in the forecast, but we have also been able to open a couple more runs in the past week. Zig-Zag at The Valley opened this past week as did Upper Richards off Chair 1 at the Basin. More runs will be opening as the snow starts to fall, so keep those fingers crossed!

Happy Thanksgiving from everyone here at Loveland Ski Area! After all that turkey with your loved ones, spend some time this weekend with another loved one, Loveland Ski Area that is! The weather for Friday is supposed to be beautiful and with the chance for some light snow over the weekend, Loveland is the place to be for great early season skiing and riding.

First Terrain Park Comps of the Season - This Weekend!
Join us this Thanksgiving weekend for Love Park's first competitions of the year! This Saturday, the 28th, Rome Snowboards hosts the Premature Jib, a rail jam open to snowboarders of all ages and abilities. On Sunday the 29th it's the skiers turn with the Nordica Ace of Spades rail jam. Registration for each event will take place the morning of starting at 10am in the Rathskeller with the competition getting underway at noon in the Love Park located on Tempest off Chair 1. Hot dogs will be provided to the first 100 participants each day. A valid lift ticket and signed waivers are required.

You heard right; Loveland Ski Area fired up Chair 1 yesterday making us the first ski area in the nation to open for the 2009-2010 season. Yesterday also marked the earliest Loveland opening in over 40 years! Skiers and riders came from all over to enjoy the first turns of the season with many more to come. Be sure to come out this weekend and give those legs a work out on our 1000 vertical foot run with side to side coverage and an 18" base!

Snowmaking Progress and Storm System Moving In

Our snowmakers are hard at work and making tons of progress. Just check out the pictures and video taken this afternoon, it looks like the middle of winter here at Loveland! Not only is the snowmaking moving ahead quite nicely, but a winter storm warning is in effect and could bring as much as a foot of natural snow over the next 24hrs. Cold temperatures and natural snowfall arrived earlier than expected allowing us to officially kick-off snowmaking for the 2009-2010 season. Crews fired up the system at 11:00 am, 3 days earlier than they were able to last season. With a favorable weather forecast for the next few days, conditions look good to get some good, productive hours in.

Loveland Test Fires the Snow Guns!

It may still be the middle of summer, but up here at Loveland Ski Area we have snow on our minds. This afternoon we test fired one of our new snow guns in anticipation for the temperatures to start dropping. Other guns are being put in position and the entire system is going through a series of tests so we are ready as soon as Mother Nature is. In addition to testing the snow guns, we are gearing up for our fall ski shows and pass sales events. Snowmaking Coming Soon!

Every season Loveland Ski Area starts making snow as soon as temperatures reach consistent lows, typically in late September. Snowmaking has several great benefits for our skiers and riders. First, we are able to open in Mid to Late October, making Loveland Ski Area consistently one of the first ski areas in the country to open. Loveland opens with a minimum base of 18 inches and side-to-side, top to bottom coverage on our 1,000 vertical foot opening day run; those opening day adages didn’t start here! Last but certainly not least, Loveland’s 160 acres of snowmaking provides a solid base and something cold to stick to when the first of our 400 inches of natural snow begins to fall – no powdery snowflake is wasted at Loveland.
